BEng (Hons) MIOA
Originally from Swansea, Blake completed a degree in Sound Engineering at University of Glamorgan, (now University of South Wales). After realising his dream of working in a recording studio was unlikely he used his firm base in physics and maths to embark on a career in Acoustic Consultancy.
Blake joined the team in 2007 after graduating with a First Class Honours in Sound Engineering. After more than ten years of working within acoustics over a wide spectrum of schemes he has valuable experience in the field which enables him to address almost all acoustic queries quickly, efficiently and most importantly, in the correct manner.
In 2013 Blake became a Director for the company and is involved in the day to day running of the company. He is a full Member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA) and he works regularly with the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC). He has recently been a member of a number of working groups to explore new developments within the completion testing of the ANC. He is also a member of the ANC Certification Committee.
Blake is also currently heading up our Welsh office and successfully growing our client base in the area. Significant Welsh clients include local authorities, developers, architects, planning consultants and contractors.
Significant schemes Blake works on include:
- Finzels Reach, Bristol – One of his longest running schemes with the initial work starting by us in 2010. The advice has included planning, BREEAM and building regulations advice and testing for all residential elements of the scheme. Originally appointed to work on the Castle Wharf, Hop Store, Malt House, and Bridgwater House elements of the scheme with Sisk and Sons. After a stall in the development we were successful in our bids and have recently been advising and testing for the Cask Store, George’s Wharf and Hawkins Lane apartments blocks built specifically for the private rental market.
- Evelina Children’s Hospital – Scope of works has included HTM 08-01 advice and testing for the redevelopment of the Level 1 and Level 6 elements at this prestigious hospital Working closely with Galliford Try the advice has included building performance advice such as included room acoustic, sound insulation and building services noise control. The Level 6 scheme is due for completion in 2018 with Level 1 to follow in 2019.
- Lidl Head Office – Following our successful noise and acoustic advice to Lidl over the last 20 years we were invited and successful in our tender for the planning and detailed design advice on this interesting scheme. The work to date has involved detailed noise control, room acoustic and sound insulation advice from planning through the design stages. We have used innovative tools such as CATT and auralisation to demonstrate to the client different treatments and sound attenuation system to ensure the client can have informed decision on each acoustic treatment.
- Ysgol Pen Rhos (formerly Seaside/Copperworks School) is a recently constructed BREEAM and BB93 development on the former Copperworks site in Llanelli. Working for Carmarthen County Council and TRJ construction we provided planning, BB93 and BREEAM noise and acoustic advice. The building is of masonry and SIPS panel with neutral timber surfaces to achieve the architect’s design aesthetic. Sound absorbent timber slats were used as ceiling treatments to
achieve the required reverberation times whilst the building fabric comprised SIPS and Masonry to provide adequate sound insulation in an inner city environment. Post construction
testing was undertaken to verify compliance with the Building regulations requirements and BREEAM.
