Rydens Enterprise School

Acoustic Consultants Ltd were appointed by BAM Construction Ltd to provide noise and acoustic advice for the proposed Rydens Enterprise School, Walton-on-Thames in Surrey

​The proposed development comprised of a new build secondary school on land that was being used as the school playing fields.

The development was a three storey building comprising of secondary school classrooms, group rooms, science laboratories, design and technology spaces, a multi-purpose hall, music teaching and performance spaces, a drama studio, library and sports hall.

There were also to be a number of ancillary spaces, such as toilets and staff areas.

Our report addressed the following elements.

  • Internal Sound Insulation
  • External Fabric Noise Con
  • Rain Noise
  • Plant Noise Criteria

Acoustic standards in school buildings are addressed under Part E of the Building Regulations 2000.

The normal way of demonstrating compliance is by achieving the design criteria set out in Section 1 of the Department for Education and Skills’ current version of the Building Bulletin 93 entitled “Acoustic Design of Schools: Performance Standards” which was published in December 2014.
