Somerset Cultural Centre - Knowle Hall, Bridgwater

Noise and Acoustic Assessment

Somerset Cultural Centre - Knowle Hall Bridgwater

Knowle Hall is a manor house that was built in 1807 and which now provides boarding education facilities for a not-for-profit education charity based in China.

The facility is for visiting students from Chinese schools who wish to experience the history and culture of the UK prior to attending university.

The charity wish to expand the capacity from 40 students to 150 within the next 5 years.

The new extension will aim to achieve this through the addition of four new classrooms, a multi-purpose hall with catering facilities, 28 residential dormitories and ancillary accommodation.

Acoustic Consultants Ltd were appointed by Oxford Architects to provide a noise and acoustic assessment for this new extension.

The scheme is required to comply with the noise and acoustic requirements of Approved Document ‘E’ of the Building Regulations. To assist with this we have provided advice on the internal ambient noise levels, internal separating and flanking element constructions, room acoustics, building services and comments with respect to compliance with the design criteria.

The design work is progressing and once construction is completed we will return to the site in order to carry out building performance tests.
