St Thomas Street, Bristol
Mix of commercial units and a student hub
Since early 2018, works have been underway on St Thomas Street, Bristol, to turn what was previously a three storey office building into a £22m mixed use development with student accommodation.
This will now become a nine storey building comprising of 357 student rooms, a ground floor occupied by a mix of commercial units and a student hub. There will also be a large storage area in the basement for bicycles.
The building will connect to the Council-run district heating network. This will help to create a new low-carbon building that will support Bristol’s goal of becoming a carbon-neutral city by 2050.
St Thomas Street (Bristol) LLP appointed Acoustic Consultants Ltd to provide acoustic consultancy advice to the end of RIBA Stage 3.
Our advice addressed the impact of the existing noise climate on the proposed noise sensitive residential spaces by providing building fabric and ventilation design advice for the residential aspects of the development based on our survey results.
This included addressing noise and over heating which is becoming more prevalent in schemes of this type. Additionally, we provided sound insulation and room acoustic advice to aid the design team at concept and tender stages of this development.
