Ysgol Pen Rhos was opened in 2018 because of the significant demand in the community for new, high-quality school places.
The new £10million Ysgol Pen Rhos has been created from the merger of the former Copperworks Infant Nursery School and Lakefield Primary School, and caters for 420 pupils and 60 nursery children.
Situated on the regenerated site of the former Copperworks Sport & Social Club and the Draka wire factory, the school has been delivered through Carmarthenshire County Council’s Modernising Education Programme, with part funding from the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools initiative.
The site features a flying-start nursery as well as a 3G sports pitch, which will be available for the community outside of school hours.
Acoustic Consultants Limited were initially appointed by Carmarthenshire County Council to provide a detailed noise impact assessment for the school development to support a planning application. The assessment clearly demonstrated the school would have a low impact on the receivers in the vicinity. the assessment also clearly demonstrated that a well designed school could be naturally ventilated without adversely affecting the use of the spaces.
Following this appointment were were instructed by the contractor to continue with our detailed noise and acoustic advice and testing through to completion. We supported the Architect and design team in providing advice to ensure compliance with the Acoustic Performance Standard s (APS) and Building Bulletin 93 (2014) and BREEAM. The development was Shortlisted for BREEAM 2018 Public Projects – Design award.
